The Snout x 2

William, shown above with a Poplar Hawk-moth, found two moths called The Snout and brought them into school today.  The Snout most often occurs where its foodplant, the nettle, is found so be careful you don’t get stung!

Connor finds Large Yellow Underwing

Connor brought a Large Yellow Underwing to class. It’s quite a dull brown moth until it opens its wings when you get a flash of bright yellow. It’s a large moth that is usually abundant from July to September. Good work Connor!

Rachel findes Purple Clay moth!

A Purple Clay moth and a moth we forgot the name of (oops!)
They were perched happilly in the barthroom, Rachel found them and dicided to bring them into school, we were amazed to see them!

Tortoiseshell Butterfly under the microscope

Lily brought in a dead Tortoiseshell butterfly. We put it under the digital microscope and took these photos.
Very exciting.

Another Brindled Pug!

Ross  found another Brindled Pug moth, crawling up the living room window. His sister, Izzy brought the moth in and found out it was yet another Brindled pug!  ” As part of the moth group, Ethnie and I check on the moths in the fridge every day.”

Puss moth rescue!

I was just entering the school ground and luckliy looked down and saw a strange blob before realisingit was a moth, so I looked after it and two friends came over and helped, Katie Loader and Sarah Harker. (By Lizzie H, y6.)

Puss Moth comes to school

Lizzie and friends found a Puss Moth sitting on the ground beside a puddle in the school grounds.
They carefully brought it inside to identify and record it.  Good work and what a beautiful moth!

Harry brings moth to school

Harry brought a moth to school that he had caught at home.
We identified it as a Hebrew Character.
