Habitats: Wildlife Garden

One of the first things we did was identify a part of the school grounds that we could turn into a wildlife garden.  We chose a site that is sunny and fairly sheltered.

In April 2009 we planted the new garden with the following species that attract wildlife:

Butterfly Bush and Large White butterfly Michaelmas Daisy Purple-loosestrife Red Valerian and Painted Lady butterfly Rosemary
Butterfly Bush (BB) Michaelmas Daisy (MD) Purple-loosestrife (PL) Red Valerian (RV) Rosemary (R)
Sedum and hoverfly Sweet Rocket The plants flower at different times of the year so they are available to more wildlife species (and they look nice for us for a longer time!).
Sedum (S) Sweet Rocket (SR)

The photograph below shows the garden immediately after it was finished and it identifies the plants using the keys in the captions above.

The Wildlife Garden looked a bit bare to start with but we were amazed at how quickly the plants grew.  The photographs below show the change throughout the spring and summer.
